Overview
San Diego Pet Con is my first responsive website that I designed and developed. This event happens once a year at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Everyone is encouraged to bring their dog and walk them around the event. It’s a very friendly environment and I always enjoy going.
Role
To redesign and develop a fully functional static website and make it awesome and of course, responsive. There was no branding involved in this project. The website needed to have three different size queries (small, medium, and large), as well as working form with good error messages.
Process
When starting on San Diego Pet Con, I approached it differently than other projects. I decided to do in-browser wireframes instead of traditional wireframes in Moqups or Illustrator. On top of that, I also did not do a Photoshop composition. I designed completely in-browser. It was a change of pace and I definitely enjoyed it.
Design
The original website seemed very clean and minimal, but it was not responsive. It needed to be cleaned up so I began with drawing thumbnails, then moved on with the in-browser wireframes. Once I had the wireframes laid out, I began designing in-browser as well. I designed for three different query sizes for each one of the pages.
Development
This stage started much earlier than previous projects. I tend to enjoy coding much more than designing. I began with the development stage practically the same time I began with the design process. The wireframes is where most of it started, then later putting in the rest of the content. As stated before, I needed to create three queries which were tested on multiple devices to ensure the usability across all devices was top notch.
