Grabbing Life with both Hands.

Neighborhood Bike Shop is a conceptual client that has a static website that needs a overhaul on both HTML and CSS. The idea is to get more clients to call the store and therefore, get more sales. They specialize in selling and renting mountain bikes, as well as many different types of accessories to fit any clients needs.

Role

My role was to brand and develop the entire NBS website. I had complete creative control. The only control I did not have is some of the content that was specific to the original website. I had to integrate that content into my my design and develop it into a fully functional static website that met all of the clients needs.

Process

The process overall was simple, but very challenging to complete on time. I needed to brand the entire site, while also coming up with a well organized process to complete the project. I began right away with a web chart and all of pages I wanted to use, then began on design and following up with the development process.

Design

The design was a lot of fun with this project. I really wanted to do something different. I began looking into different color schemes and found one that used pink and purple as the primary colors. After the colors were chosen, I designed a logo. This was originally a static site, so I designed it for that purpose alone, later deciding to convert it into a responsive design. That way anyone could jump on their phone and access the site as well.

Development

Development, like always, can be very challenging. It really depends on how much someone pushes themselves. I always push myself to finish a project to the best of my ability, and NBS is no exception to that. I began coding in Atom and I was getting recommendations on other types of text editors to use as well. In the end, however, I decided on Sublime became my primary text editor.

Take Away

With NBS, I gained so much more knowledge with CSS and quickly found myself looking deeper and deeper into CSS. I began using Flexbox and started to see the potential of it. This was the first time I branded a company and developed the entire website as well. I really pushed myself to finish an amazing website and later down the road was able to convert the static site into a responsive site.
